Sally Ileen Ray
Sally Ileen Ray In loving memory of Sally Ileen Ray, who passed away peacefully at home on June 20, 2020. Born December 1, 1944 in Los Angeles, CA to John Howard Shannon and Mary Ellen Bowen, she grew up in Long Beach and later Whittier, CA. She spent her career with General Telephone where she met and married the "love of her life" Charles R. Ray. Sally retired after 28 years with GTE and she and her husband traveled often, with cruising being her favorite vacation. She enjoyed spending time at the casino with her gal pals, visiting with friends and family, and spoiling her grandchildren whenever possible. She was generous and giving, thoughtful and kind and made friends wherever she went. Outgoing and gregarious, she was full of knowledge and wisdom, offering sage advice and a loving heart to everyone. Sally was an active member of MyBCTeam support forum where she was a mentor, inspiration and friend to women around the world dealing with breast cancer. She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Charles R. Ray; son, Robert C. Pickett Jr., wife Judith; daughter, Kimberly D. Ray; grandchildren Alec Pickett, Katherine Ray, Eden Carroll, Thomas Rivera, Glory Carroll, Anthony Olivas, Karen Aguilar, and her brother John H. Shannon and his wife Dawn. Sally's ashes will be laid to rest at Desert Memorial Park in Rancho Mirage, CA and a celebration of life will be held later this year in San Diego, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any of her favorite charities including St. Jude's Children's Hospital, the ASPCA and Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
