Helen Anne Farrenkopf
Helen Anne Farrenkopf Feb. 23, 1940 - June 17, 2020 Helen Farrenkopf passed away Wednesday, June 17, 2020, at home with hospice care. In the months leading up to her passing she was surrounded by her daughters, husband and grandsons. Her many friends wrote her letters and emails, and filled her days with love. She graduated from New Rochelle High School and attended the Greenwich Hospital School of Nursing. In 1962 she headed west to San Francisco and worked as a nurse through the 60s, taking time to put flowers in her hair and protest the war. In 1968 she met Tony Farrenkopf, a German bohemian academic. They married in Mill Valley, Calif., barefoot and happy, and moved to Amherst, Mass., where their first daughter, Marieka, was born. They returned to California where Tony taught university, and their second daughter, Bridget, was born. In 1979 they moved to Portland. The house they bought in the Alameda neighborhood is the house they remained in until Helen's passing. Helen loved cross country skiing, hiking in the Gorge, cooking for her friends, drinking coffee on rainy mornings, and walking all over Portland She is remembered by her husband of 50 years, Tony; daughter, Marieka (Portland); son-in-law, Matt; and twin grandsons, Eli and Kellen; her daughter, Bridget (Paris, France); son-in-law, Mark; and grandsons, Kadin and Xavier.
