Arthur Walter "Sonny" Diaz
Arthur Walter "Sonny" Diaz Pala - Arthur Walter "Sonny" Diaz, was born March 30th 1934 to Sylvester Diaz and Lucille Mojado Diaz. Diaz's mother came from Pala, California and his father came from Chihuahua, Mexico. Mr. Arthur Diaz grew up on the reservation where he met his wife. He married Beverly Patencio from Palm Springs, California and were married 64 wonderful years. The two shared five children, Frances Diaz Cummings, Darlene Diaz, David Diaz Sr, Dennis Diaz Sr. He had 28 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren, numerous great great grandchildren. As a young boy living on the Pala Reservation, he was a altar boy for the Pala Catholic Church, Arthur went to Bonsall Elementary School then stayed home to help his mother with his siblings. He held jobs as a dish washer, fire fighter serving with other Native Americans in the US forestry service. He built pools in Palm Springs and owned his own company PTL Towing. He also was an Ordained Minister on the Rincon Reservation. Many times he would take Revivals to Native Reservations in Northern California and at Torres Martinez reservation in the Coachella Valley. He loved to go hunting in Utah. He also liked lake fishing and deep sea fishing! Mr Diaz loved riding his Honda Goldwing Motorcycle, as a Member of the Christian Motorcycle Association in the 80's. Arthur is preceded in death by his loving wife, Beverly; his son Arthur Jr; mother, Lucille Mojado Diaz, Father, Sylvester Diaz; Sisters; Betty, Audrey, Carol, Brothers; Francis, Howard, and Michael Diaz. Arthur also known by Sonny is survived by his 4 children, Frances Diaz Cummings, Darlene Diaz, David Diaz Sr, Dennis Diaz Sr. His Uncle Gilbert Mojado, Aunt Jane, Uncle Porky.. Arthur was Blessed with many Nieces, Nephews, Great Nieces and Nephews, Great-great Nieces and Nephews and many Godchildren. His graveside service will be held at Jane Augustine Patencio Cemetery in Palm Springs on June 27th 2020 at 10:00 am. Please wear your masks and practice Social Distancing.
