Melissa Marie Kruppa
Melissa Marie Kruppa, 50 Loving wife and mother; accomplished special education teacher Melissa Kruppa, native Staten Islander, loving mother, caring wife, irreplaceable friend, and beloved teacher, born Dec. 19, 1969, passed away on June 20, 2020, after an 80-day battle against COVID-19. Melissa was an accomplished teacher, having earned her master's degree in special education, and went on to continue her career as an educator for over 20 years. For 17 years, Melissa proudly served the students and community at I.S. 24 as both a paraprofessional and special education teacher. Melissa felt immense pride and love for her school and her many hundreds of students, who impacted her as much as she impacted them. After her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2018, Melissa "fought like a girl", overcoming her cancer. Melissa loved the Jersey Shore and spending time with her many loving friends and family members by the sea. She is survived by her 19-year-old daughter, Camryn; her 24-year-old son, Tyler; her husband of 27 years, Kenneth, and her beloved dog, Tucker. Melissa was a beautiful mother. Viewing of Melissa will take place Tuesday, June 23rd, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at Hanley Funeral Home on New Dorp Lane. Due to current restrictions, viewing will take place in small groups.
