Marjorie Louella Counley
Marjorie Louella Counley Indio - Marjorie L. Counley was born February 15, 1922. The daughter of Milton and Mary (Peterson) Burchell. She attended rural schools in the Turtle Lake Area and the Turtle Lake High School. Marrying as a young girl to Toby Kiemele and to this union 4 children were born, Geraldine, Robert, Ronald and Bryan. Moving to Seattle, Washington, she worked in the defense plants Boeing & Ship yards. After separating from her husband she moved to the desert and later married Howard Counley, two children were born, William Counley and Shari Counley. There she worked in the dates and later an employee of the Coachella Valley Unified School District, working in food service for 32 years, retiring in 1992 as director of food services. While there she was a member of Desert Hi-Lo #71 and President for many years. She was a member and coordinator of the Thermal senior center, also a member of the Gilda Club. She enjoyed all these activities, but nothing compared to being a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, accepting the Lord in March of 1948 and joining the church in the fall of the same year. There she taught Sunday School, was the S.S. secretary and church clerk for many years. She was an active and faithful member, considering the church home and her second family. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and four sisters, her husband, son Robert in infancy and one daughter Jeri Greenup. She is survived by her son Ronnie, Bryan, Bill and daughter Shari, 15 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
