John M. Giallombardo, 86 John M. Giallombardo, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away on June 7, 2020, at age 86. A longtime resident of Staten Island, he spent his last years at his home in Toms River, N.J., with his wife and their dogs. Born and raised in New York City, on the Lower East Side, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank L. Giallombardo. He is survived by his wife, Regina Giallombardo; his son, Frank M. Giallombardo and daughter-in-law, Maribel, and daughters, Lorraine Pillarella and son-in-law, Louis, and Lisa D'Auria and son-in-law, Ronan; grandchildren, Dean and Raquel Pillarella and Christian D'Auria. He was married to Marie Giallombardo until her death in 2000. He will be buried with Marie at Moravian Cemetery. John had many dear friends and neighbors he cherished through his last days. John served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, as a lead engine mechanic on the B-36 Peacemaker, the largest piston-engined aircraft ever built, and as an artist. John's talented hands led him to careers in draftsmanship, engineering, which he studied at the College of Staten Island, invention, sculpting, and toy-making. He held several patents. He later rose to floor-manager at Argo Intl. and, was later self-employed as an industrial pattern-maker with machine shops in his houses. John was self-taught and a lifelong learner who had many hobbies. Among others, John's hobbies included drawing, reading, videogame-playing, and writing. He rescued and raised two greyhounds during his retirement. He loved classical music and was a film enthusiast. A viewing will take place at Colonial Funeral Home, 2819 Hylan Boulevard, this Friday, June 12, 2020, from 6 to 9 p.m., with practiced social-distancing. On Saturday, June 13, 2020, a funeral procession from Colonial Funeral Home will depart at 9:30 a.m., followed by interment at 10 a.m. at Moravian Cemetery.
