Robin Darden Thomas
Age 66, born April 18, 1954, Robin passed away unexpectedly on June 4, 2020 surrounded physically and virtually by her family. Eldest child of the late Robert A. and Janet June Darden, Robin is survived by siblings Barbara Deering (Jim), William Darden (Rose), Susan Darden Kautz (John), and Robert J. Darden; children Tracy Thomas, Devin Thomas, Cory Thomas, and Kyle Thomas; grandchildren Alex (Davis) and Riley Thomas; 22 nieces and nephews and many more greats. Robin was in the very first graduating class of The Glen Oak School in Gates Mills, Ohio (1972). She then went on to University of Virginia where she graduated with a Masters of Education in Special Education and Teaching and, subsequently, obtained a Master's in Business Administration and Management from Cleveland State University. Robin was an exemplary public servant, serving Cuyahoga County for over 28 years in various capacities including Director of Operations (Auditor's Office), Chief Deputy Treasurer, and Interim County Treasurer. For the past nine years, she served Cleveland's Thriving Communities Institute as the Land Bank Program Director. Robin was a dedicated mother and grandmother and was cherished by all who knew her. She loved to travel and her destinations were vast including Japan, Thailand, Italy, Scotland, Alaska and Hawaii. Throughout her travels, she was always on the lookout for local artwork and collectible turtles. Her favorite vacation spot was Sanibel Island, Florida where she had many cherished beach walks collecting seashells. Robin was an avid reader, loved growing orchids, supported local arts and crafts festivals and the Cleveland Playhouse Theater community. She was also an advocate for civil rights and the LGBTQ community. The family will celebrate Robin's life and share her impact on this world at a celebration of life later this year. Details will be disseminated by the family, when available, through social media. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made, in Robin's memory, to the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, 3850 Chagrin River Rd., Moreland Hills, OH 44022. Robin was passionate about the mission of the Land Conservancy so memorializing her tremendous contributions to NE Ohio with a gift will make a lasting tribute.
