Jacques E. Goessens Aug. 24, 1941 - April 18, 2020 Jacques Emile Goessens, born in Brussels, Belgium, Aug. 24, 1941 passed away into the arms of our Lord April 18, 2020. He served in the Belgian Navy as a ship cook from 1960 - 1961. He was stationed in Zeebrugge. Jacques graduated from the High Culinary School, C.E.R.I.A. in Brussels, Belgium after his service. His training was at the restaurant, Le Cygne in the Grand Place of Brussels. He came to the U.S. in 1971 working in Washington, D.C., St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, then settled in Los Angeles working as the personal chef for Edith Mayer Goetz, daughter of L.B. Mayer of MGM Studios. He was the owner of Le Papillon restaurant in Woodland Hills, Calif., from 1975-1987 serving French and Belgian cuisine. He worked for S.E. Rykoff in 1988 where he met his future wife. He married Susan Pellow Aug. 25, 1990 in Portland, Ore. Jacques' greatest love was his family and friends. He loved to host and cook for all family events as the kitchen was his place of joy. He was involved with all youth sports, particularly soccer as a coach. Jacques worked in the food industry for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Susan; children, Eric of St. Paul, Ore., and Luke and Gina of Tualatin, Ore. He was preceded in death by son, Frederic. A virtual celebration of life will be held in the near future. Burial was held at Valley View Memorial Cemetery in Newberg, Ore.
