Simone Couture
Simone M. Couture, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020. She was born in Holyoke on August 15, 1928 a daughter of the late Rene and Bertha (Lefebvre) Gagnon and the widow of Richard E. Couture to whom she was married to for 57 years. She graduated from Immaculate Conception School, Rosary High and Holyoke Business School. She was also a member of the choir at Immaculate Conception Church. Simone was a former US Government employee, employed as a Secretary at Springfield Armory and in later years was employed part time as a customer service representative for PVTA. In 1955, she moved to Chicopee and was a Communicant and Eucharistic Minister of the Nativity B.V.M. Parish. She was also a member of the Business girl’s bowling league at the bowladrome in Holyoke for 25 years and active at the Chicopee Senior Center with the exercise classes. She loved to beat her family at Scrabble and enjoyed hosting card games with friends. She is survived by her four children; Paula Mendrala and her husband Joseph of Holyoke, Richard E. Couture Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Fort Mill, SC, Robert Couture and his wife Laura of Byfield, MA, and David Couture and his wife Jean of Westminster, MA; her 6 grandchildren, James Couture, Janet Combs, Jennifer Preston, Mariah and Larissa Couture, and Adam Mendrala: 4 great grandchildren, Lillian, Abigail, Yvonne, and Olivia. She was also predeceased by her sister, Leona Wychorski. All are invited to meet for Simone’s Funeral Mass on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 10am at St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St., in Chicopee. Please be considerate of others and maintain social distancing when you enter and exit the church, as well as guests sitting 6 feet apart in the pews. It is also asked that you please wear your mask inside the church. Burial will be private for the family at the Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. There are no public calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in Simone’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
