In memory of
Joan Lunsford Kuhne
KUHNE, Joan Lunsford Born in Pampa, TX on February 21, 1936 to James Cecil and Vada May Lunsford, our beautiful Joan, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2020 at age 84, from complications of Alzheimer's. After graduating from Pampa High School, Joan began pursuing her Music Degree at the University of Oklahoma, where she met and married her husband, Bob of 66 years. She went on to graduate from SMU in Dallas where Bob began medical school. They welcomed their first son, Chris while living in a one bedroom guest house in Highland Park, where they became "family" for years to come with their landlords. The Air Force took them to Topeka, KS for three years before moving back to Dallas where Bob completed his medical residency at UT Southwestern. It was there where their daughter, Sundi, was born in 1966, followed by their son, Brad, who completed their family in 1969. Joan and her family spent the next 50 years in the dream home they built, where Joan spent her happiest moments making music on her beloved Steinway. Her musical gifts were the most celebrated part of extended family gatherings and many students learned from her through the years. One of her many musical highlights included performing Rhapsody in Blue, as the invited guest artist with the Richardson Symphony Orchestra in 1971. Joan was a lover of cultures, and trips with her husband allowed her to see the world. She shared this passion with her daughter who was fortunate to be her guest on many European adventures with her International Music Teachers affiliation. Most importantly, Joan was a most gracious matriarch to her family, the glue that kept us together until Alzheimer's began stealing her from us. We will miss her terribly, but take comfort in the beautiful music she is now sharing in her eternal home. She leaves behind her husband of 66 years, Bob Kuhne, her son Chris (and Katie) Kuhne, her daughter Sundi (and Kris) Nelson, her son, Brad (and Kristin) Kuhne, Grandchildren Courtney (Aaron) Johnson, Madison Kuhne, Doak Kuhne, Peyton Halbert, Hudson Halbert, Rob Kuhne, and Alex Kuhne, great grandson, Knox Johnson, her loving confidant, Margaret West, caregiver Tiffany Ellis and a host of loving nieces, nephews and lifetime friends. Visitation will be held Friday, May 22nd from 4-6 PM and Funeral Service 2 PM on Saturday, May 23rd both at Restland Funeral Home, Dallas, TX.
