In memory of
Esly Barreras M.D., of Alameda, California, passed away Dec. 4, 2015, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 20, 1938 in New York City, New York. Esly graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in 1963, and completed his residency at Stanford University Hospital. He served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1968 as Lieutenant and Ship's Physician. For forty years, he was a highly respected doctor of Neuromuscular Medicine in private practice in Oakland, California, from which he derived immense satisfaction. Esly is survived by his wife, Carolina Robb; son Michael Barreras (Heather Pierskalla) and three granchildren: Isabella, Jacob and Brooklyn. Esly had a great appreciation of the world and a tremendous appetite for experience. Over the years, he traveled in Europe, Japan, Egypt, and Mexico. In 1975, he earned his pilot's license, later flying to Jamaica, Mexico and the Sierras. He was a skipper and yacht owner who belonged to the Encinal Yacht Club in Oakland, CA. Winters were spent skiing in the Sierras, Colorado and Utah. A dedicated physician, a lover of art and music, a student of history, an ardent traveler, pilot and sailor, Esly is also lovingly remembered as a wonderful storyteller by his wife Carolina, the companion of many marvelous adventures during their lives together.
