John "Randy" Schetky
John 'Randy' Schetky Dec. 17, 1950 - April 3, 2020 John "Randy" Schetky, 69, of Lake Oswego, formerly of Portland, passed away Friday, April 3, 2020 at Legacy Meridian Park Hospital due to cancer. Randy was born Dec. 17, 1950 in Portland to John and Janet Schetky. Randy was raised in the Eastmoreland neighborhood of Portland with his brother Steve Schetky and lived there throughout his childhood. Randy attended Duniway Elementary School and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1969. He went on to attend Oregon State University where Randy was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) Fraternity. It was during his years at OSU that he met his future wife, Linley Pribnow. After graduation in 1973, Randy and friend Bruce Morgan traveled throughout Europe. Linley met up with Randy while traveling, and in 1975 they wed in the small town of Delemont, Switzerland. Upon returning home Randy began his career at Schetky Northwest Sales, Inc., a refocused undertaking of the original Schetky Equipment Corp, which was established in 1942 by Randy's Grandfather, Jack Schetky. The business was reorganized to sell buses and solid waste equipment and Randy worked side by side with his father John. Upon his father's retirement in 1991, Randy was named President. He continued in that role until his passing. Randy grew the regionally strong dealer into one of the largest bus and van dealerships in the United States. Schetky also expanded from one facility into five throughout the Northwest and Arizona. Randy was not only one of the industry's most respected figures, he was also well liked by vendors and customers. In his free time Randy enjoyed traveling with Linley, visiting their vacation home in Palm Desert, Calif., and being out on a golf course. Randy was known for his quick wit and sense of humor. Randy was also generous and offered his help to those who needed it, both personally and professionally. He had an adept ability to solve problems and provide advice. Randy dedicated time to coaching his children's early sports teams, always making it fun and engaging for the kids. He enjoyed working outside and in his yard where he could typically be found on weekends. During his younger years, Randy and Linley spent many weekends working on his father's vineyard in Dundee, and this began his affection for wine and wine countries. The family is unable to plan Randy's Celebration of Life at this time due to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak. An announcement will follow as soon as arrangements can be made. In addition to his wife Linley, Randy is survived by his sons, David and Chase (wife Liana); his granddaughter, Maya; and his brother, Steve (wife Chris and sons Adam and Jon).
