In memory of
Margaret S. Carson
Margaret S. Carson of East Orleans, MA died peacefully in her sleep on May 11, 2020 at The Terraces in Orleans. Peggy was 88. Margaret Joan Stroker was born in Detroit, MI in 1931, the oldest daughter of John P. and Margaret (Magas) Stroker. She was valedictorian of the first high school class to graduate from St. Cyrils High School in 1949. From there, she attended Providence Hospital School of Nursing. Her tenure at Providence Hospital included being the first nurse manager of the ICU when it opened, which she remained proud of her entire life. She was, and will always be, a nurse. While single, she loved to travel, visiting Europe and many parts of the US. It was on a trip to Mexico with friends in the fall of 1962 that she met Kent L. Carson. The two married on May 11, 1963 in Detroit, after which she joined him in Hartsdale, NY, where they built their family home. There, she devoted her life to raising her two children. She was active in Sacred Heart Parish as a eucharistic minister and on the parish council. Peggy and Kent first put down roots in Orleans in July 1976, purchasing a summer home in East Orleans. In 1983, Peggy and Kent built their retirement home on Mill Pond, where they moved full time in 1995 and resided until she moved to the Terraces in March 2020. Peggy was active in St. Joan of Arc Parish in Orleans. She enjoyed the Friday cocktails at Orleans Yacht Club, Winter Warmers and holiday parties at Eastward Ho!, the calamari at the Yardarm and a lobster roll from anywhere! She loved her bridge groups, her garden and her cat. But in the past 8 years, her greatest joy was her grandsons. Her last smile was inspired by viewing a photo of them. In addition to her husband, she leaves behind two grateful children, Ann Carson (m. Paul Roycraft) of Harwich, MA and Michael Carson (m. Sean Smith) of Pembroke, MA, four beloved grandsons, Colin, Austin, Breckin and Daxtin Carson - Smith, two sisters (Mary Ann and Jean) and many loving nieces, nephews and their children. The family will hold a private Catholic burial, with a memorial Mass at a later date. Kent, Ann and Michael want to express their deepest gratitude to all the staff of The Terraces, who cared so lovingly for Peggy during these unprecedented times. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Cod HealthCare Foundation or the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, who helped her survive cancer and give her 14 more years with her family.
