Ed Vanden Akker
Vanden Akker, Ed Ed Vanden Akker, age 90, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wives Jo (Bonin) Vanden Akker and Barbara (Mason) Vanden Akker; his daughter, Diane Burhans; son, Robert Vanden Akker; sister, Marjorie Veurink; and brother-in-law, Nelson Dykgraaf. He will be lovingly remembered by his children David Mills, Carol (Steve) Nemeth, Jim (Jeanette) Vanden Akker; grandchildren Melinda, Daniel G., Alyssa, LinAe, Amee, Alethea, Alec, Daniel B., Nick; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Dykgraaf; brother-in-law, Al Veurink; and many nieces and nephews. Ed proudly served his country in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He attended South High and received his B.A. from MSU. His career included working for Travelers Insurance Company and Standard Oil; he then earned his Master's Degree in Social Work from U of M and worked for the Department of Social Services until his retirement. Ed enjoyed traveling and playing in the Great Lakes Senior Golf Association Tournaments. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, May 18, 2020 from 12-2 pm at Cook Funeral Home (West building), 4235 Prairie St. SW, Grandville, with a graveside service to be held at 2:30 pm at Grandville Cemetery. The family welcomes memories and messages in their online guestbook at www.cookcares.com .
