Juliareen Miller Williams, better known as Julia or Ms. Julia, was born to the union of George H. Miller, Sr., and Laura Williams Miller on October 23, 1942, in Inverness, MS. The family moved to Pascagoula, MS in 1955. She moved to Columbus, MS in 1995 and came to love and call it home. Julia peacefully passed away at home in Columbus on May 2, 2020. Julia was a graduate of Carver High School, Class of 1960, in Pascagoula, MS. She was a scholar, community leader and activist, and athlete. She attended Mississippi Vocational College (now Mississippi Valley State University) in Itta Bena, Mississippi, and later Mississippi State College for Women in Columbus, MS. She was a member of Asbury A.M.E. Zion Church in Pascagoula, MS. Julia was previously employed as Assistant Director for the Jackson County Civic Action Committee. Julia was preceded in death by her mother, Laura Miller; father, George H. Miller, Sr.; brothers: James P. Miller, Sr. (Emma); George H. Miller, Jr., and Frank Miller (Gelin). In loving memory, she leaves her three sons, Byron L. Miller and Padraic L. Williams (Columbus, MS), and George A. Williams, III (Genessa) (Killeen, TX); grandson, Christian Williams, granddaughter, Taneeshia Williams; brother, Tandy Jerome Miller (Mobile, AL); two sisters: Brenda Miller Johnson (Joseph), Leeds, AL, and Betty Miller Mitchell, Pascagoula, MS, and a host of other family members and friends. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 in Columbus, MS at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home.
