Irving Winokur Devoted father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather Irving Winokur, 97, passed away on April 26, 2020, from COVID-19 related complications. Irving was born on Dec. 7, 1922, and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He lived in the Westfield, N.J., area for over 65 years. Irving graduated high school in Brooklyn and went on to receive an undergraduate degree from University of Wisconsin and his master's degree in finance from Columbia University. He spent his professional career working for American Investment Company. Irving enlisted in the Army during World War II and served in Japan, the Phillipines and North Carolina. When he returned home, he met the love of his life, Arlene nee Ellensweig, whom he married on Dec. 25, 1949. They were married for 42 years until the time of her death in 1991. Irving and Arlene spent time enjoying their passion for duplicate bridge, traveling and spending time with their children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and family members. Irving was predeceased by his sister, Ida Miller and his brother, Solomon Winokur. Family was everything to him. Irving was a devoted father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his son, Richard Winokur and his husband, Ersin Okumus; his daughter, Nancy Rosenthal and late husband, Herbert Rosenthal and daughters, Allison Ehrlichman and her husband, Jon Ehrlichman and their children, Teddy, Spencer, and predeceased by Trevor; Jennifer Easton and her husband, Todd Easton and their children, Harper and Jonah. Irving was an exceptional and kind man who loved to talk to everyone because as he said, "that made life interesting." Irving had many friendships that he sustained through his life. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by many. There will be a private ceremony at Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Iselin, N.J., on April 29. Donations can be made to the Jewish Family Service Agency, 665 Westfield Ave., Elizabeth, N.J. 07208 for their food pantry.
