POUNCY, Gene A private graveside service for Gene George Edward Pouncy, will be held May 1, 2020 at Lincoln Memorial Park. A viewing for family and friends is scheduled for 1-6 p.m., April 30, 2020 at Cliffview Church of Christ 2424 Simpson Stuart Road, Dallas, Texas 75241. Gene Pouncy, a retired El Centro College English and History professor for over 37 years, was a well respected and admired educator in the Dallas County Community College District. Additionally, Gene was one of the greatest Track and Field sprinters ever produced in Texas. Gene, 69, died April 21, 2020 after a short illness. During his high school years, at Dallas Lincoln, Gene was a major player in rewriting the record books for secondary Track and Field athletes in 1969-70 leading teammates to three national schoolboy records in the 440-yard relay and indoor mile relays. In college at Southern Methodist University, Gene won multiple Southwest Conference championships in the sprints and anchored SMU's sprint relay team to three consecutive conference championship. Gene, an All-American, is on the "All-Time List of Best 100-yard Dash" sprinters in America. He was inducted into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame in 1998 and recognized via the "Black Alumni Award" from Southern Methodist University in 2012 for his significant contribution to the SMU community. He is survived by his wife, Beverly Pouncy; daughter, Kimberly Pouncy Hayes; son, Gene Pouncy , Jr., twin brother, Joe Pouncy; sister, Eliza Wilson and four grandchildren. A Celebration and Memorial will be TBA in mid-June 2020 for Mr. Gene G.E. Pouncy Sr.
