In memory of
Albert J Rossi passed away on April 18, 2020. He was born on July 27, 1931 to the late Emilio and Francesca (Tinarelli) Rossi in Springfield. He grew up in Springfield, before moving to Boston, a city he loved, to pursue his career. Al’s work life was spent in the newspaper industry where he rose to editor of the living arts section of the Boston Globe. He started his career at the Springfield Union News and also spent time at the Boston Herald, then known as the Herald-Traveler, and the Providence Journal. He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and his love of films, jazz, history, and doing the Sunday crossword puzzle in pen. Al also served his country in the United State Navy, first in active duty and then for 20 plus years in the Naval Reserve from which he retired with the rank of Commander. In his retirement years, he divided his time between Boston and Cape Cod. Al was predeceased by his brother Gino Rossi and recently, by his sister Lillian Etkin. He leaves behind his nephews, grand and great grand nephews and nieces. Services will be private with a memorial service to be held in the future. Contributions in Al’s name may be made to the American Cancer Society, which Al supported since successfully battling cancer many years ago.
