Barbara J. Stamm Barbara J. Stamm (nee DeLair) 76, of Burr Ridge, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 after a long, hard battle with breast cancer. Her tough spirit never stopped fighting; it was only her body that succumbed to the disease. Born and raised in Willow Springs, Barb married Richard Stamm on October 2, 1965 after the couple met while working at the National grocery store. After the couple married, they lived for a short time in Brookfield before moving to their home in Burr Ridge, just a few blocks from where Barb spent her childhood years. A 1962 graduate of Lyons Township HS, Barb earned her associates degree from COD. She worked for many years at Edgewood Valley Country Club then Gower School District as an administrative assistant and finally Thor-Shackel Horseradish Co. until she retired. Through the years Barb and Rich enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, motorcycling and supporting their kids, Jeff (Cindy) Stamm and Vicki (Brian) Truesdale, in their various activities. Barb has always been an avid reader, devouring books by her favorite authors Agatha Christie, Sue Grafton and Jan Karon. Since Rich's death in 2014, Barb has enjoyed joining her friends at the Pleasantdale Garden Club, monthly bunco gatherings, weekly domino games with her sisters-in-law, Carol Agurkis (Stamm) and Karen (Stamm) Szczypkowski, as well as Tuesday night dinners with the neighbors-many of whom she has known for over 50 years. Barb was a skilled sewist, often gifting stitched items. Her 4 grandkids, Travis and Tyler Stamm and Jacob and Kayla Truesdale, looked forward to her yearly pajama pants creations. Barb also enjoyed visiting with her grandkids, teaching them card games and supporting them in their sporting events too. Barb wanted everyone to know how hard she fought over the last few years. She appreciated the calls, cards and visits she had over the last several weeks. Barb also kept her keen sense of humor and sarcasm until the very end. Barb is survived by her Brothers Leo DeLair and Hank DeLair, sisters Janis Rowland and Joy Pernat, step-mother Edna DeLair, several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation was held on Thursday, March 12th at Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., Countryside. A Mass was held on Friday, March 13th at St. Cletus Catholic Church, LaGrange. Interment was held at Clarendon Hills Cemetery, Darien. For Funeral Info: 708-352-6500 or HJfunerals.com
