OBITUARY - STEVEN GETHING Steven (Steve) Gething a 13 year Manhattan Beach resident passed away peacefully on Monday, March 2nd at the age of 40, after a 4 year cancer battle. Steve was born and raised in London, England and came to Manhattan Beach to join the LA offices of his UK based company. He had the best sense of humor and loved a good time. He spent the better part of his time in the South Bay sending his friends and family pictures of the weather reports in December, beach days in January, and his car temperature readings in the Summer just to "let them know he was doing well", while those in England were freezing. He loved the laid-back lifestyle in California and most importantly the weather, the golf, the wine, and the people. Steve grew up playing football (lifelong Liverpool supporter – YNWA), fishing, golfing, and DJ'ing house music on pirate radio stations in London. He had a loving family, and a wonderful childhood. Family and friends were the most important thing to Steve, and he remained close to them all even while being so far. A year after arriving in America Steve met his wife Veronica, and they married two years later. Steve and Veronica built a beautiful life, and enjoyed many years of laughs, traveling, parties, and building a family. Steve was then diagnosed with Cancer in February of 2016, and spent the next 4 years in treatment, undergoing countless surgeries, courses of radiation, and systemic drug therapies. Throughout the course of his diagnosis, Steve was positive, brave, and never complained. He was laughing and joking up until the day he died, and never let those around him know how bad the pain was. He was one in a million and will be fiercely missed by all who knew him. Steve read the Beach Reporter religiously and would be very happy to know that he is being featured in this week's edition, even if he had to die to make it happen. Steve is survived by his wife, Veronica Mracek Gething, his two sons Spencer and Parker Gething, Mother Diane Gething, Sister Lizzie Wood, Sister in Law Lenka Mracek Fujikake, Brothers in Law Steven Wood and James Fujikake, Mother and Father in Law Olin and Nelly Mracek, Niece Scarlett, and Nephews Toben, Benet, Ren, and Ronnie. Steve was preceded in death by his Father Michael Gething.
