John Robert Carlock Sept. 9, 1939 - Feb. 21, 2020 John Robert Carlock was born Sept. 9, 1939 in Kelseyville, Calif., and died Feb. 21, 2020 in Lake Oswego, Ore. He graduated from Redlands High School in California. John served in The National Guard. Charlaine Bates met John on a double date at a bowling alley in Redlands and though he was not her date that night he soon after became her husband. They were married in 1961 having recently celebrated 59 years together. Charlaine was the love of his life. John moved his young family to Portland in 1972. He graduated from Multnomah School of The Bible in 1975 and received his Masters of Divinity from Western Seminary in 1978. For many years John worked at W & H Pacific as a civil designer. In later years he started his own firm - JRC CADD Design. John was known in the industry as a perfectionist. Faith played an important role in John's life. His relationship with Jesus Christ was central to his family life and beyond. He led by example and made an impact on those around him. For many years he attended and was active in River West Church in Lake Oswego. World War Two history in particular planes from the War interested John. John was able to quickly detect an engine sound and plane type flying overhead taking great pride in doing so. He had a great appreciation for this time period - aero design, strategy, bravery, sacrifice, the lives lost defending our Country. John taught himself to play the classical guitar and became quite accomplished having a great appreciation for the works of Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In this too he strived for perfection and high quality sound. John Carlock loved his family. He is survived by his wife, Charlaine Carlock; daughter, Serena Giesbrecht; his daughter, Valarie Marrs, son, David Carlock and his son, Timothy Carlock; 7 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
