Karen Ellen Lemay of Westerly, R.I. entered into her eternal sleep on February 9, 2020 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born in Springfield, Mass. on April 10, 1947, the daughter of Walter J. and Sally Dunham Jurkowski. Karen attended Springfield schools, graduated from Classical H.S. in 1965 and attended Bay Path University. She worked at American Saw, Monarch Insurance and many years at Mass. Mutual Life Ins., retiring in 2010. A very creative artist, she painted, did decoupage, sewed masterfully, did a multitude of crafts, and was known for her wonderful cooking skills. She was a long-time member of the Heidi Hikers, the Westerly Yacht Club, the Stretch and Go Class at the Westerly YMCA, and the Ladies Tap Class at Michelle’s L’Ecole De Danse. A happy traveler to lots of interesting places and cruising, she also enjoyed good wine and wine tastings. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 44 years, Michael Lemay, her sister, Joanne Jurkowski Saltman and husband William of Belchertown, three loving children, David Pelletier of Westfield and his wife Monica, Nicole Fyntrilakis of Hampden, MA and her husband Nicholas, Stephen Lemay of Westerly and his wife Cherly, and David Lemay and his wife Kristen of Easthampton. She also is survived by her 12 adored grandchildren, Mackenzie, Madison, Matthew and Michael Pelletier, Andrew, Lucas and Karina Fyntrilakis, Olivia and Kara Lemay, Devin Lemay, Corey Larochelle and Kacie Michalenko, and a special nephew Brian Boulay and his wife Annmarie of Longmeadow, a dear sister in law Catherine Marshall of West Springfield and her husband Paul, lots of cousins and many good friends, especially long time best friend Judy Michalak. We are grateful to the Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven and especially Dr. Nicolai Podoltsev for the caring treatment she received. A private memorial will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be given to Smilow Cancer Hospital or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Agawam Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
