Elizabethann Shields Gingrich
Elizabethann "Betsy" Shields Gingrich passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2020 peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, after a 6 year battle with melanoma. Betsy spent more than 30 years as a guidance counselor at Northern Lebanon High School. Upon retiring, she and her husband spent many years traveling the world. Betsy loved to explore and learn about new places and cultures. Her biggest regret was only visiting six of the seven continents, and not getting to India. She loved to dance, and she and Frank took ballroom dance lessons and loved practicing their craft while cruising around the world. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Ruth Shields, her husband, Franklin R. Gingrich and her daughter, Sarah E. Firebaugh. Betsy is survived by her son, Crawford P. (Jill) Gingrich of Mechanicsburg; her daughter, Rachael R. Gingrich of Harrisburg; one grandson; her sister, Judy Rodgers. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 17, 2020 at 10 A.M. at St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral, 221 N Front St, Harrisburg. The Very Rev. Dr. Amy Welin, Dean officiating. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. A Visitation will be held on Sunday, from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Hoover Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 6011 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Central Pa., 1320 Linglestown Rd., Harrisburg, Pa. 17110 or to the American Cancer Society, Capital Area Unit, PO Box 897, Hershey, Pa. 17033.
