Marvin "Nobi" Nicholson Jr.
Marvin 'Nobi' Nicholson Jr. NJ Transit employee whose love of trains began in his youth Marvin "Nobi" Nicholson, Jr., 60, of Princeton, N.J., passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2020. Marvin was born on Feb. 26, 1959 to Marvin Sr. and Julia Nicholson in Southern Pines, N.C. He graduated from Pinecrest High School in 1977 and attended Sandhills Community College. Marvin developed a fondness for trains from a young age after witnessing a model train layout at a family friend's home. His feelings for trains developed in to a passion, driving him to move to New Jersey to pursue the railroad industry. It was here that he began working for NJ Transit, establishing a 30+ year distiguished career. He became a member of The New York Society of Model Engineers, model train club for many years, traveled to train shows all across the country yearly, and even fulfilled a personal goal in 1995 by hosting his very own train show. Marvin enjoyed building model train layouts and was an avid collector of model trains. He was a good man, a loving father, and a loyal friend. He is survived by his parents, Marvin Sr. and Julia; son Adrian; daughters, Alexandra and Shavon; grandchildren, Ethan, Isabella, and Somaya; and sisters, Ellen (Art), Cindy, Crystal (Jerry), and Robin; nieces and a host of other relatives. Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Rd. at New Rd., Monmouth Junction, N.J. 08852.
