Gnida, Beverly 5/18/1933 - 2/7/2020 Grand Rapids Beverly Rose (Ricket) Gnida, age 86, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, passed away on Friday, February 7, at her son's home in La Vista, Nebraska. Beverly was born and raised in Detroit, attended Redford High School and Wayne State University, and maintained a life-long loyalty to her beloved Detroit Tigers. Prior to her marriage, she worked in Detroit at Difco Laboraties as a lab chemist. She worked at Kent Community Hospital from 1988 until her retirement in 1998. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and being an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She loved to garden and traveled often; she particularly enjoyed visiting botanical gardens. Some of her favorite things included cows, hummingbirds, sailing, and the University of Michigan. Beverly collected bells, and her favorite travel destination was the Swiss Alps where the beautiful music of cowbells rang out all around. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, Janice (nee Buckingham) and Paul Ricket; her husband, John J. Gnida, Jr., and her son, Charles Paul Gnida; her sister, Nancy Meyer, and her brother, Frederick Ricket. Beverly is survived by her son, John J III (Jan), her daughter Nanette Larson (Jim), and five beloved grandsons: John (Jack) Larson, Luke Larson, James Larson, John J Gnida IV, and Harvey Gnida, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church, Grand Rapids, at 10:00 am on Monday, February 17, 2020, with visitation one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, https://michiganimmigrant.org/donate .
