Chesney, Richard Lee 12/14/1937 - 2/7/2020 Kent City Richard Lee Chesney age 82 passed away peacefully at his home in Kent City on Friday, February 7, 2020 with his family at his side after a difficult struggle with cancer. He was born on Dec. 14, 1937 in Ludington, Michigan to Selma and Bernard Swantek. Richard moved to Sparta as a young boy were he grew up and he met his wife of 49 years, Bonnie. Richard retired from the Kent County Parks Department in 2003 after 28 years of service. During his retirement he loved to watch NASCAR and spend a lot of time doing yard work. He loved to keep his family entertained with his goofy expressions and comments. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Selma and Bernard; wife, Bonnie; daughter, Theresa; son, Richard Jr.; great granddaughter, Halo; brother, Daniel; sister, Shirley; brothers in law, Keith and Tom. He is survived by his children, Laura (Tom) Cook, Tina Castillo, Jim Castillo (Heather); adopted daughter, Ramona Willer; sister in law, Joanne Chesney; 11 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2020 1:00 P.M. at the Hessel-Cheslek Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating. Friends may meet the family at the Funeral Home on Saturday, from noon until time of service at 1:00 P.M.
