Emily J. Williams
Emily J. Williams Palm Springs - Emily J. Williams, 91, and a 67-year resident of Palm Springs, CA, passed away on February 5, 2020. She was born on July 18, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Emil and Vera White Rinsch. Emily graduated from Indiana University in 1950 with a degree in dietetics and was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She served her dietetic internship at the University of Michigan Medical School. In 1953 she married 2nd Lt. Donald E. Williams in Indianapolis, Indiana. They settled in Palm Springs, CA where her husband's parents, John and Helen Williams, were pioneer founders. They raised two sons. After her sons were older, Emily earned her Masters of Health Science Education Degree from Indiana University and then completed a Doctor of Medical Science Degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She was a registered dietitian and a member of the American Dietetics Association, the Inland Dietetics Association, Phi Lambda Theta Honorary Sorority and is listed in four categories of Who's Who. She was the first registered dietitian at Desert Hospital. Emily was involved with many community organizations including Palm Springs Museum Western Art Council, Coachella Valley PanHellenic, Palm Springs Woman's Club, Palm Springs Historical Society, Cahuilla Chapter of DAR, Palm Springs Genealogy Association, Republican Women's Club, Mizell Senior Center, and Palm Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed serving and being an active member of her community. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Williams; her mother and father, Emil and Vera Rinsch; her brother, Charles Rinsch; and her sister, Elizabeth Rinsch Jones. She is survived by her sons, Gene Williams and his wife, Cindy; Ron Williams and his wife Kay; six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Emily loved her family and was very proud of all of them. The family would like to thank all the staff at Bella Villaggio Assisted Living in Palm Desert and especially thank her caregiver for the last five years, Rhonda Ricono. Emily is interred at Welwood Murray Cemetery in Palm Springs. Private services were held on February 10th . To honor Emily donations may be made to: Palm Springs Historical Society 221 S.
