Mary Jean Schindler
Mary Jean Schindler Aug. 6, 1925 - Dec. 29, 2019 Mary Jean Schindler died Dec. 29, 2019 from heart disease and a stroke a few months earlier. She passed at her daughter, Carol Jean Mecham's home during the night. Mary Jean was born in Nebraska and moved to Portland in 1962, with her husband, Dr. Wallace A. Schindler and her children. She resided at her home on S.W. Dosch Road until September 2019. Her education started out in nursing and ultimately led to her doctorate and mental health instruction at Damash Hospital. Mary Jean was a gifted watercolor artist and an involved member of both First Presbyterian Church and St. Andrew's Church. She supported family reunions at the beach and through education funding for her grand and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by Wallace A. Schindler; and her sons, John A. and Kurt A. Schindler. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Jean Mecham, Bellevue, Wash., Sandra Kay Lawrence, Tacoma, Wash.; and her sister, Kathleen Sadil, Carlsbad, Calif., and Kathleen's children and grandchildren. Also surviving are grandchildren, John A. and Diane K. Lawrence, Amanda Jean and Crista Montano-Schindler and their spouses and children. She was brilliant, kind and caring - a treasure to many that knew her. A funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at Mountain View Cemetery, in Lakewood, WA.
