Alfred R. Hopper Sr. New City - Alfred R. Hopper Sr., "Pop Pop", passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at the age of 92. Alfred is survived by grandchildren, Deborah (Joseph) DiMaulo, Melanie (Daniel) Hladik, and Randy (Antoinette) Downs, great grandchildren, Stephen (Marissa) Hladik, Christopher Hladik, Kristina, Theresa, Joseph DiMaulo, and his great great grandson Cole Hladik. He is preceded in death by his wife Margaret F. Hopper, daughter Theresa D. Downs, Son-in-law Randy Downs and son Alfred R. Hopper Jr. Alfred was born on December 4, 1927 in New City, NY to Elizabeth and Robert Hopper. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1946 and was Honorably Discharged in 1949. He married Margaret in 1953. Born and raised in New City, NY he worked for Lederle Laboratories of Pearl River, NY as a technician, biol. validation and retired in 1991. He was a life long member of the New City Fire Department. His favorite past time were attending firehouse functions. He was an avid Yankees fan. Alfred enjoyed most to be surrounded by friends and family. Most of all Alfred loved his two cats Tom and Jerry. Viewing hours are scheduled for Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Funeral Service will be 10am on Friday, January 17, 2020 at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home, with Interment to follow at Germonds Presbyterian Cemetery. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Alfred's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to United Hospice of Rockland.
