Dorothy Bogdanowicz Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Dorothy Bogdanowicz, 94, a longtime resident of Bloomfield, N.J., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2020. Dorothy was born in Nanticoke, Pa., to Katherine and John Miedlar on Sept. 18, 1925. She was the oldest of five children. Dorothy was a hardworking, single mom who raised four children. She worked as a waitress and later a secretary for Egan and Sons, working until the age of 74. Dorothy was known for her great sense of humor and wittiness. Her laughter would light up a room with happiness. She was a woman of integrity, a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She was predeceased by her husband, Charlie; her son, James Dougherty; two sisters, Helen Dempsey and Loretta Klach, and her brother, Anthony Miedler. She is survived by her three children, Ken Dougherty, Laura Dougherty and Karen Gyetvay; her brother, Edward Miedlar; two sisters-in-law, Fran Meidlar and Phyllis Miedler; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. The funeral will be on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020, from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, ( swbrownandson.com ), 267 Centre St., Nutley, N.J., at 10 a.m. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Valentine's Church in Bloomfield, at 11 a.m. The interment will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield. Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 14 between 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Commission for the Blind would be appreciated.
