In memory of
Joseph Bertolini
Joseph Bertolini, 81 Beloved husband and father Joseph Bertolini passed away quietly Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2020, at the Arch Care at Carmel. The son of Julius and Ernestine Bertolini, Joseph was a lifelong Staten Island resident, living in Concord. He attended P.S. 48 and was a graduate of McKee High School. After graduation Joseph joined the U.S. Marine Corps. Serving from 1956 to 1958, he did service in Hawaii. After his military service Joseph came home to Staten Island and began to work as a carpenter with Local 20 for over 40 years. He was a tireless volunteer for St. Sylvester's Church, doing carpentry, repairs, ushering, and just about anything else the parish needed. He was a docent for the Staten Island Zoo, and built the totem poles on site there, giving lessons to students as he did the build. Joseph coached ice hockey for both Moore and McKee High Schools. His carpentry talents were put to use by the Parks Department, building the decorative flowerboxes on the roadway leading into Gateway Park. In his spare time, he loved hunting and fishing. Joseph is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia (nee Freeo), and his loving daughter, Maria Lynn. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Sylvester's R.C. Church, with committal to follow at Moravian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. Services were entrusted to the care of Martin Hughes Funeral Home.
