Mary E. Murphy Formerly of Elizabeth and Toms River, devoted grandmother Mary E. Murphy (nee Swanick), 94, of Cranford, N.J., entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 10, 2020. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation at the Walter Johnson Funeral Home, 803 Raritan Rd., Clark, N.J., on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral begins at the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m., thence to St. Agnes Church, Clark, where a Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia, N.J. To offer condolences, please visit walterjohnsonfh.com . In 1951, Mary married Bill Murphy and they settled in Elizabeth, N.J., and raised five children in a home filled with love and laughter. She and Bill built their new home in Toms River, N.J., the site of many family gatherings and grandchildren's sleepovers. After Bill died, Mary came back to Union County residing in Cranford senior housing, where she enjoyed many hours with a whole new group of friends. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Ellen, her stepmother, Winifred, two brothers, John and James, a sister, Nancy (Sr. Roberta, OSB), her son-in-law, James Mac Conchie, and her husband, Bill. She is survived by five children, Mary Ellen Scott (Frank), Noreen Mac Conchie, Ann Matthews (Bob), Margaret Lay (Ralph), and Bill Murphy (Claire). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, James Mac Conchie (Sonia), Brian Mac Conchie, Michael Scott (Carmella), Conor Scott, Kate Matthews (Casey Bray), Lindsay Matthews, Patrick Lay, Erin Lay, Aidan Murphy, and Austin Murphy.
