In memory of
Duncan Bonnell Duncan William Angus Cameron Bonnell, of Dunvegan, Isle of Skye, Scotland, passed from this life on January 10, 2020. He was 79. He left behind his wife of 33 years, Deirdre, whom he loved beyond all measure, as far as the numbers go. He also left behind friends who loved him for his courage, breadth of knowledge, teaching and counseling abilities, his directness and humor. He was local at Avery Avenue, Isle of Lewis, Scotland. He was a Godly man who lived a principled and disciplined life at the high cost of several life-changing decisions. He had a brilliant mind, entering the University of Edinburgh, Scotland at aged 14, but after winning the Queen's Medal for Surgery as a resident physician, took a doctorate in Biology instead because he wouldn't perform abortions, to which graduating doctors were required to consent in his graduation year. He emigrated to the U.S., where he rose quickly in the corporate ranks of United Aircraft, now United Technologies. He lived in Canada for a period before returning to the U.S. and was involved in businesses ranging from farming to manufacturing to banking. He lived an extraordinary life of international business travel, spoke six languages and had a near photographic memory. His health was difficult in the last years, but he never complained. His radiant smile and deep, expressive voice were filled with grace. For 38 years on this Earth he and Deirdre had the Big Love, wrapped completely in love and trust, with no hurts or pains between them of any kind. He loves God with his whole heart and mind, and there is nothing higher that can be said about a man. We will suffer a searing sense of loss for the rest of our lives until we meet him again, because there's no getting over a man like him. He will be buried under the sugar maples in St. Patrick's Cemetery, in Barker, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, at Our Lady of the Lake (St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church), Barker, NY.
