Edward A. Kelly
Edward A. Kelly, 81 Beloved father of four and Poppie to six grandchildren Edward A. Kelly of New Dorp, Staten Island, N.Y., passed away peacefully on Jan. 10, 2020, surrounded by his family. Ed was the eldest child of Edward Augustus Sr. and Helen Sullivan. He was born in 1938 in Philadelphia, Pa. He moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1946 and attended St. Vincent Ferrer Elementary and Midwood High School. Ed received his AAS from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Massachusetts. He was a proud veteran and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1968. Ed worked on the trading floor for Ball, Burge & Krause in the late 60's. From 1975, he owned a seat on the American Stock Exchange. He had a passion for technology, electronics, and hands-on learning. As a teen, he helped build gyroscopes with his dad for the family business. He loved hunting at his cabin in Maine and was an avid promoter of the NRA. Later in life, he enjoyed traveling and going out to dinner with his "diner group" friends. Ed was predeceased by his wife of 36 years, Dorothy C. Kelly (nee Ferrante). He is survived by his four children, Denise Kelly-Jones and husband, Brad, Karen A. Simpson, Edward S. Kelly, Elaine Madeo and husband, Russ; and grandchildren, Olivia and Connor Simpson, Christopher and Alexander Jones and Addyson and Kacey Madeo. Ed is also survived by his wonderful companion of 13 years, Lenore Sherman; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Mary and Paul and Cookie, along with seven nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and -nephews. The family will welcome friends and relatives at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane, on Wednesday, Jan. 15, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 90 Third St., Staten Island. Burial is at St. Peter's Cemetery. If desired, contributions can be made in Ed's name to Colonial Rifle and Pistol Club, OLQP Church or a veterans charity.
