DOROTHY CHRISTENSEN
Dorothy M. "Dottie" Christensen Aug. 19, 1931 - Jan. 5, 2020 OKLAHOMA CITY Dottie, at the age of 88, departed her earthly life on Jan. 5 and joined her two departed children, Teri Shipp, of Evans, CO, and David, of Oklahoma City, in her new life at the heavenly paradise. Dottie was born in Philadelphia, PA to Viggo and Helen Berthelsen. They later moved to Chicago, where she graduated from Calumet High School and first dated her to be husband. They were married for 66 years. From Chicago in 1953, they moved to Utica, NY to join the General Electric Co. In 1963, they transferred with GE to Oklahoma City with their then four children, Marty Jr, David, Steven, and Lori. In 1964, another child, Teri, was added. Dottie soon added to her mother role a passion for volunteerism that included stints at Deaconess Hospital, where she was coordinator of what was then the "Candy Stripers," a young girls team that helped at routine errands. Next came her eight-year stint at the VA Hospital, where she was primarily a coffee/donut lady serving to veterans. Most recently, her favorite activity was with the Care Center at Church of the Servant, where her primary efforts were note writing and phone calls. Dottie is survived by her husband, Marty; son, Martin and his wife Sonja; son, Steven and his wife Sherri; daughter, Lori and her husband Todd; son-in-law; Aaron; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A special thanks to Aaron of Sooner Hospice - the epitome of caring. Memorial service will be Friday, Jan. 17, 1 p.m. at Church of the Servant in the Chapel of the Cross at 14343 N. MacArthur, Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, or of course, a favorite charity of your choice.
