Merle M. Cook June 29, 1921 - Jan. 9, 2020 MIDWEST CITY Merle Margaret Cook left her earthly home for her heavenly home Jan. 9, 2020. Merle was born June 29, 1921, north of Guthrie, OK. When she was 16, her family moved to a farm northwest of Chickasha. She attended Meridian High School, graduating in 1939. She worked in Chickasha a short time before marrying her husband of 52 years, John Jay Cook, in 1942. Together, they moved to Midwest City shortly after the war and raised their two daughters. Merle was a participating member First Baptist Church of MWC for as long as her health permitted. She loved to work with Meals On Wheels and serve where she could, making many lifelong friends along the way. Gone on before her to their heavenly homes were her parents, William and Clara Newberry; husband, John Jay Cook; sister, Marjorie Nicholas; a beloved niece, many nephews, brothers and sisters-in law. Merle is survived by daughters, Betty Lytle, of Mustang; and Kristina Cook, of OKC; grandchildren, Kay Lytle, of Mustang; and Jeffrey Lytle, of Marble Falls, TX; and great-grandchildren, Sarah Lytle, of Norman; and Max Lytle, of Mustang. Merle also leaves behind brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Nadine McDown, of MWC; J.R. and Juanita Cook, of Chickasha; and Lois Cook, of Chickasha; and a wealth of nieces, nephews and friends. Merle will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Special thanks to the Elara Hospice Group, who provided much support and care to Merle and famiy. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2020, at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha, OK at 1:30 p.m.
