Sylvia Belle (Emken) Klinker Aug. 20, 1919 - Dec. 14, 2019 Sylvia Belle Klinker (nee Emken) was born Aug. 20, 1919 to George and Anna Emken of Brownsmead, Ore. Sylvia died peacefully Dec. 14, 2019 in Beaverton, Ore. She met her goal of living to 100 years of age and she was involved with life until the very end. Sylvia grew up on her parents dairy farm in Brownsmead and graduated from Knappa/Swenson High School. She moved to Portland after high school to attend business college working as a bookkeeper during the early 1940's. She married the love of her life, John Klinker, March 21, 1942. They began married life in a small home in Portland and moved to Milwaukie several years later in a home John built for them where they raised their three children Diana, Beverly and Jack. John passed away in 2008, after 66 years of marriage. Sylvia spent her last years at Raleigh Hills Assisting Living, making new friends and enjoying games and visits with old friends. She was known for her quick wit and her one-liners. " I wasn't born yesterday," "I'm not dead yet" and "it's not my style." She is survived by her children, Diana Garrett (Karl Clark) of San Jose, Calif., Beverly Perttu of Beaverton and Jack Klinker of Portland; and her grandchildren, Teresa Garrett of San Jose, Calif., and Levi Perttu of St. Paul, Minn.
