Carolyn Louise Holst Sept. 28, 1950 - Dec. 22, 2019 Carolyn "Carrie" Louise Holst died peacefully in Prineville, Ore., Dec. 22, 2019, after a six year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Carrie was born the third of four daughters, Sept. 28, 1950 in Eugene, Ore., to Dr. William Donald Holst and Emma Jane Murphy Holst. She graduated from Roseburg High School in 1968 and from Portland State University in 1973 with a BS in art illustration. Carrie lived in Portland and was active in the art community throughout her life. She served as president of the Watercolor Society of Oregon (WSO) in 2008 and was an active volunteer for Oregon Society of Artists (OSA) for many years. She taught watercolor at Portland Community College and was featured in many local and regional art shows. Her specialty was plein air painting where she expertly captured the mood and color of outdoor scenes. For many summers, Carrie joined her father in commercial fishing for albacore and salmon out of Winchester Bay. A memorial for Carrie on the Oregon coast this spring will include ocean scattering of her ashes to join those of her father and grandfather. Carrie was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by sisters, Priscilla Holst, Beverly (Steve) Oberg and Linda (Russell) Torgerson; niece, Amanda Oborne; and nephew, Paul (Heather) Oberg.
