In memory of
Billy Earl Moore
Billy Earl Moore, 82, a resident of Saraland, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020, at home, surrounded by family and loved ones, following a long battle with dementia and the effects of several strokes. Mr. Moore was born on January, 30, 1937, to Jack and Gladys Moore of Pinehill, AL. He worked for International Paper Company for 34 years, retiring at 55 years old as a Pulp Mill Superintendent. Once retired, he took up many hobbies and interests. A lifelong outdoorsman, he especially loved hunting and fishing. He loved to cook and his Christmas seafood feasts with homemade mac-n-cheese will be especially missed. He was a talented craftsman, known for making rocking chairs, hope chests and beautiful heirloom pieces. He discovered he could paint and enjoyed the quiet solitude of practicing his technique from a photograph or "en plain air." He also cultivated many vegetable gardens over the years but the acre of sunflowers that he planted for his granddaughters may have been his most beloved crop. He was preceded by his parents, Jack and Gladys Moore and his brother Terry Moore. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Louise Averitt Moore; children Melodie Moore Williams of Mobile, Ricky Moore of Pascagoula, MS and Billy Moore, Jr., of Saraland; five granddaughters, Christi Miller (Chris Craig) of Middletown, Delaware; Savannah Boyce (Chris) of Saraland; Leslie Miller of Tuscaloosa, AL; Katie Scarlett Findley (Alex) of Saraland; Olivia Moore of Agricola, MS; six great grandchildren, Haleigh Moore, Zoe Harris, Karsyn Wilson, Avonlea Findley, Georgia-May Craig and Murphy Miller Craig. He is also survived by his brother Jesse Moore (Pat); sisters Lois Sirmon (Joe); Margie Smith; Patricia Beasley; Marilyn Moore (Jeff Pritchard); nieces, nephews and many loved ones. Special thanks to Mr. Moore's devoted sister-in-law Barbara Owen and her husband Don for their care, concern and frequent visits; his sister Marilyn Moore and her husband Jeff Pritchard for their selfless contributions that left the whole family feeling nurtured and refreshed; Alabama Hospice for their care and expertise; CNA Michelle Salter for her care, expertise and warm personality over these last few months. A visitation for family and friends has been planned for 11:00am on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 1:00pm.
