(nee Fenner), age 92, born 07/13/1927, passed away 12/05/2019. MAPES, Marianne, ne Fenner. Marianne F. Mapes, 92, beloved daughter of the late Florence Kathleen Fenner, ne Murray, and the late George Raymond Fenner, devoted wife of the late Rev. Dr. Richard Mather Mapes, Sr., and loving mother of Cynthia L. Mapes(Jim Frances), Richard M. Mapes,Jr(Laurie), Catherine E. Powers(Jeff), and Carolyn J. Mapes, died December 5th, 2019, at Maristhill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Waltham, Massachusetts. Mrs. Mapes is survived by sisters-in-law Karole Fenner , Bluffton,South Carolina, and Louise Fenner of Upper Arlington, Ohio, as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Marianne's parents and five brothers predeceased her. Marianne was born July 13, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio. She attended The Ohio State University, Northwestern University, and graduated from The National College of Education, now part of National Louis University, located in Chicago, Illinois. She became a teacher of young children, and founded and directed several nursery schools in Ohio and Florida, most of which are still in operation. Her spiritual life has always been central to Mrs. Mapes, and she was drawn to become involved in Christian education. She met her future husband, Richard Mather Mapes, at Yale University, where she went for further study in CE. Together, they embarked on a life in the United Church of Christ: Richard as a minister of the UCC and Marianne as educator, hostess, spiritual leader, and choir member of the many congregations the Rev. Mapes served. Married for 54 years, they traveled widely and fully enjoyed their life together. Rev. Mapes pre-deceased Mrs. Mapes in 2005. A memorial service celebrating the life of Marianne Mapes will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to: The Children's Fund, P.O.
