Eileen Hilger
Hilger, Eileen 5/23/1936 - 11/25/2019 Ann Arbor, MI Eileen Ella Hilger Born May 23, 1936 in Bloomer, WI. 83 years old Died from complications of Parkinson's disease and Lewy Body Dementia on November 25, 2019 at Glacier Hills. Mother: Ella Albrecht Father: Peter Hilger Born at home on the family farm in Bloomer, WI, the youngest of nine children. Eileen graduated from St. Luke's School of Nursing in Racine, WI. in 1959. She completed a Bachelor's degree in Nursing from the University of WI., Milwaukee, and later, her Master's degree in Nursing from the University of Iowa, Iowa City. Eileen and Helen Berg met early in their nursing school days and became lifelong friends, sharing housing, travel, and life's everyday ups and downs. Eileen and Helen moved to Michigan in the early 70's, where Eileen's nursing roles included positions at St. Joe's on the Boulevard in Detroit, University of Michigan Hospital, and Saline Community Hospital. Her focus was primarily in the surgical nursing area and administration. Eileen enjoyed and respected nature and wild life. She and Helen shared a love of animals, especially dogs, and had several throughout their 60 plus years together. Most recent, was their beloved golden retriever, Tansy. Eileen appreciated the small but important things in life, a good meal, a beautiful song, a small gathering of friends, and a daily dose of ice cream. She was a grill master and mixed a mighty fine bloody mary. In her retirement Eileen developed a remarkable gift for photography. She captured the beauty of nature and highlights of her travels with Helen, including a special trip to Sweden. Eileen shared many beautiful framed photos as gifts to her friends. Eileen was shy and reserved, never seeking the lime light. Her nature was to be kind, thoughtful and helpful. She was an amazing friend and provided daily assistance and support to Helen, following Helen's experience with polio in the 1960's. Survived by: Helen V. Berg, lifelong friend, of Ann Arbor, MI. Jeanetta Robinson, sister, of Bloomer, WI. Ruth Hilger, sister-in-law, of Chippewa Falls, WI. Nieces: Darlene Hennaman, Lois Hilger, Jackie Kiraly and Evelyn Ferstenou Nephews: Douglas, Eugene, Jim and Jerry Hilger Preceded in death by: Sister: Loretta Vahlenkamp Brothers: Edwin, Elton, Alvin, Richard, Robert and Harry Hilger Nephews: Herbert Vahlenkamp, Robert Hilger Jr., and Duane Hilger Special thanks to the staff of Glacier Hills, a Little TLC, and Ann Arbor Hospice who provided competent and caring services for Eileen. We will be celebrating the gift of Eileen's life on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 10am in the Life Enrichment Center, at Glacier Hills, 1200 Earhart Rd.
