HEFFERNAN, Joan Carolyn Joan Carolyn Heffernan, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 10, 2019 from dementia. She was born on January 7, 1931 in Upper Darby, PA to Mabel McMaster and Earl M. Famous, she graduated from Upper Darby High School. Following her high school graduation, Joan worked full time for the Bell Telephone Company, and did part time work as a waitress for the local diner, called Don's. She loved keeping busy with her jobs. On April 11, 1953, Joan married the love of her life, Joseph Raymond Heffernan, after he returned home from the Army. She and her husband were married for 63 years. Joan had four children, and always put family first. She and the family relocated many times, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin and Texas. Joan and the family finally settled in Richardson, where she lived for 44 years. She was a long-time member of Canyon Creek Country Club where she made life-long friendships, and pursued her passion for playing bridge. She also loved other activities, such as, entertaining family and friends at her home, golfing, listening to big band music and dancing with her beloved husband. She is survived by her children Ellen Sanders (Scott), Mandy Miller (Mitch), Joseph R. Heffernan, Jr. and Terry Mann (Don); her grandchildren Jennifer Miller, Amanda Miller-Newman (David), Jacqueline Miller-Denegre (Matt); her great-grandchildren Charlotte Newman and Caroline Newman; four step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Plano. Donations in her memory can be made to The Alzheimer's Association of Greater Dallas Chapter.
