Ellyn Marie Hay
Ellyn Marie Hay, 84 of Hoover AL. passed away Thursday, November 28 2019.Ellyn was born November 22 1935 in Holly Pond, Alabama to Arthur and Gussie Mae (Reid)Patterson. She grew up in the fields and hills in Cullman County Alabama, where she attended and graduated from Holly Pond High School in 1953. She began her 68 year long career as a beautician at the age of 13, washing hair in her aunts beauty salon. She married in June of 1954 to William Earl Ellis, throughout there 25c year marriage they celebrated the birth of three sons. During this time, she was the Founding President of The Regent Highland Garden Club and ran her own beauty salon out of their basement while being a loving mother and wife. In 1982 she married the second love of her life, George James Hay and spent the next 31 years married to him until his death. Together, they managed motels all over the Country, until settling and spending over 20 years in Panama City Florida, where she said she 'truly found herself'. They both were active members of the PC Chapter of the Moose Lodge, where she did the accounting. She continued to run her own Beauty Salon and thru these two avenues, found many life long friends. Ellyn and George eventually returned to Hoover to be closer to family. During this time , she continued to work as a Beautician and a caregiver until the Stroke in November 2018. She is preceded in death by her mother (Gussie Mae) and father (Arthur), youngest brother (Raymond),First Husband (William Earl Ellis), and second husband (George Hay). She is forever remembered in the hearts of her three sons : Michael Anthony Ellis (Kathy), Charles Gregory Ellis (Lynette), William Mark Ellis; 6 grandchildren Katherine reeves(David), Kameron Robbins((Brian), Tanner Ellis, Samantha Ellis(Ryan), Amber Ellis, Griffin Ellis and 5 step grandchildren;4 great-grandchildren, her brother Hershel Patterson(Joyce) and a host of other nieces, nephews, family, and friends. We like to thank Linda Brook for all her concern and help given toward our mother while she was a patient at Plantation Manor Nursing Home as well as all the doctors nurses and staff.
