Aphonse J. Apicella
Aphonse J. Apicella Yonkers - Alphonse J Apicella 89 of (Shrub Oak) Yorktown passed away peacefully on Monday December 2, 2019 after a valiant fight. Alphonse "Funzi" was born in Yonkers April 12 , 1930 to Pasquale and Filomena Apicella and was a longtime resident . He attended Yonkers schools and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in March 1953. Alphonse was part of the fabric of the old 7th ward in Yonkers and was a member of the St Donato Society, Yonkers Columbus Day Celebration as Deputy Marshal and Congress of Italian American organizations. Alphonse had a long career spanning over 40 years with the Teamsters local 456 including humble beginnings working at a block plant and rising to the position of Chief Shop Steward in heavy construction. Some of his most notable projects included The Galleria Mall and Gateway office complex in White Plains. Alphonse loved swimming, following the Yankees, Giants and Jets. His greatest passion however was for his family, and he enjoyed attending anything and everything his children and grandchildren were involved in. He taught his family that the true meaning of life could not be measured by material things, but rather love, kindness, respect for others and a deep belief in God. He was also an extraordinarily strong person and never backed down from a fight. He is survived by his dedicated loving wife Carol (Lierni) of 63 years and his Children, Joseph Apicella, Tara Rosenblum, John Apicella, Ellen Apicella, Alison Apicella, Frank Ferro and eight grandchildren, Jennifer Apicella, Jessica Apicella, Stella Apicella, Samantha Apicella, Amanda Apicella, Steven Mancini, Nicholas Mancini and Mikey Mancini. Alphonse was the youngest of 10 brothers and sisters all of whom predeceased him. Ralph Apicella, Jackie Apicella, Joseph Apicella, Louis Apicella, Anna Apicella, Madeline Pistone, Anna Caroprese, Antoinette Dicasoli and Angelina Vitoria. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Rosary Hill Home 600 Linda Ave. Hawthorne, NY. Visiting will be at the Yorktown Funeral Home 945 E Main St, Shrub Oak on Wednesday from 8:30am to 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be in St. Patrick's Church 137 Moseman Rd, Yorktown Heights at 9:45am. Entombment will follow at Ferncliff Cemetery Hartsdale, NY.
