Wasyl Karawanowycz, 97 Sports fan enjoyed family vacations and playing soccer Wasyl Karawanowycz, 97, of West Brighton, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2019, at home, surrounded by family. Wasyl was born in Ukraine, moved to Germany, and then emigrated to the United States. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church. Wasyl and his late wife of 50 years, Anna, were the proud parents of Maria Ford and Michael. Wasyl was an avid sports fan, and was especially fond of the New York Mets, New York Giants football, and the New York Rangers, and looked forward to trips to Shea Stadium and Citi Field. He also loved the family trips to Busch Gardens, Disney World and Atlantic City. Wasyl enjoyed playing soccer and volleyball. Visitation will take place at the Virginia Funeral Chapel at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Ave., Castleton Corners, on Monday, Dec. 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, 288 Vanderbilt Ave. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery.
