John Joseph "Muzzy" Mascarelli Sr.
John 'Muzzy' Joseph Mascarelli Sr. Co-owned hair salon in Greenwich Village John "Muzzy" Joseph Mascarelli Sr., 84, of Mesa and Buckeye, Ariz., passed away on Nov. 21, 2019, following an extended battle with lung disease. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Dec. 9, at VA National Cemetery located at 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd. in Phoenix, Ariz. 85024. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Horizon Funeral Care in Mesa, Ariz. John was born and raised in Staten Island, N.Y., having been born on July 12, 1935. He was the son of John and Margaret Mascarelli and one of 15 siblings. John was married to Carrie Painter-Mascarelli on Feb. 14, 2012; they were married for seven years and together for 16 years. He is survived by sons, Lonnie, Jason, Mark, and John Jr.; and daughters, Carrisa and Barbara, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his early years, John and his brothers, Tommy and Frankie joined the U.S. Navy, styling hair admirals and captains. After discharge, he and his brothers owned and operated a styling salon in Greenwich Village that was very popular and frequented by many famous personalities, including The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli, and James Dean. Afterwards, John had a 35-year career as a truck driver for many companies, including Georgia Pacific and Gardner Trucking. John loved sailing and was very proud of his Hunter 45' yacht. His passion for music, dancing and overall enjoyment of life was a privilege to experience. His spirit will live on forever...
