In memory of
Thompson, Naomi 11/24/1932 - 11/27/2019 Ann Arbor, Michigan NAOMI ALINE THOMPSON, the oldest daughter of the late Jessie (Holladay) and Samuel Ned Robinson, departed this life on November 27, 2019 in Ann Arbor, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. Naomi was born on Thanksgiving, November 24, 1932 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended and was baptized at Mount Carmel Baptist Church with her younger siblings, Norman Shiel and Florence Annett. Naomi attended Southern High School in Philadelphia then worked at the Penn Fruit Company for a number of years, before retiring to become a seamstress, her true passion. She enjoyed making her own clothes as well as wedding gowns, choir robes, and even Halloween costumes for her granddaughters. Naomi was united in holy matrimony to the late Levi Theodore Thompson, Sr. on October 23, 1952. Naomi and Levi, Sr. (affectionately known as Teet) enjoyed 38 loving years of marriage before his death in 1991. They moved to Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania, where they raised their two sons, Levi, Jr. and the late Marvin Howard. Naomi was a devoted Christian and attended the Walter Avenue Baptist Church. For many years, she directed the youth choir and sang in the adult choir while Teet was chair of the Trustee board. Together, they also helped to raise Teet's younger siblings as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and godchildren. For 17 years, Naomi and Teet hosted the annual Thompson Family Reunion in their home, and Naomi continued to attend with her son and his family every year, including the 50th Anniversary in Philadelphia this past September. Following the birth of her two granddaughters, Marissa Elena and Sabrina Elise, Naomi spent significant time in Michigan, where she helped to raise and care for them. She was a loving and doting grandmother, and she instilled in them a love of musicals, taught them to sew and cook, and prepared elaborate and delicious meals for every holiday. She considered Michigan her second home and befriended many including her neighbors, son's poker buddies and students, daughter-in-law's sorority sisters, and granddaughters' many friends. Naomi is preceded in death by: Levi, Sr., her husband; Marvin, her son; Jessie and Samuel, her parents; and Florence, her sister. She is survived by: Levi, Jr., her son; Maria, her daughter-in-law; Marissa and Sabrina, her granddaughters; Norman, her brother; brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and countless friends. Naomi's life continues to be an inspiration and testament to love, strength, and generosity. She gave selflessly to others, remained resilient through personal loss, and stayed strong and positive even as she battled illness later in life. She was always there to lend a hand to those in need. We were blessed to have known Naomi, and we know that her life will continue to impact our lives every day.
