In memory of
Betty Jane (Toussaint) Polley
Betty Jane Polley (Toussaint) Betty Jane Polley 93, originally born and raised in Orange County, CA and a longtime resident of Indio passed away peacefully August 21, 2019. Betty and her husband, Norman Toussaint and their 3 kids, arrived in the Desert in 1954 and immediately opened Norbetts Cafe on the corner of Miles and Smurr (northwest corner) in downtown Indio just across the street from the Indio Hotel and the original McIntosh Pharmacy. At that time Indio had a population of approximately 8000. Some years later, both Betty and Norm opened THE PALMS CAFE on Interstate 99, now Indio Blvd., and ran that 24 hour restaurant until 1969. Betty and Norm eventually went their separate ways and Betty then married Claude Polley, also a restaurant owner in Indio, and they spent some 30 years together in Indio, with a summer home in Florence, Montana. Betty also worked for the California Highway Patrol and Valley Memorial Hospital (the hospital in Indio many years ago, before JFK). Betty is survived by her 5 children: Rlea Bolls (husband, Kenny), Bill Toussaint (wife, Dianne), Ron Toussaint (wife, Betty), Dennis Toussaint, Lori Frederickson (husband, Dan), plus 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A 'Celebration of Life' is scheduled at the Coronado Gardens Mobile Home Park Clubhouse at 81641 Avenue 48, Indio, CA on December 7, 12PM - 2PM.
