Antoinette Sorrentino-Vreeland, 90 Family owned the famous LaRosa's Pastry Shop Antoinette Sorrentino-Vreeland (nee Ribertelli), 90, passed away at her Piscataway, N.J., home on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2019. Born and raised in South Beach, Antoinette enjoyed spending time at her maternal grandparents' bakery. La Rosa's Pastry Shop in South Beach was well known for their delicious pastries and authentic Italian lemon ice. After graduating from McKee High School, Antoinette began working for a law firm in Manhattan. She also was talented seamstress who worked in local dress shops while she raised her family. Her talent for sewing made her sought after by friends and family for alterations, draperies, dresses and even Halloween costumes. Antoinette was also an excellent cook. Her Italian specialties, such as Frutti di Mare and her famous crab sauce, delighted her family and friends, especially on Christmas Eve, where she created the traditional Feast of the Seven Fishes. She also enjoyed socializing and dancing. "Mom was caring and loving person," said her daughters. "She worried about everyone and truly enjoyed when they were all together for the Holidays." Antoinette was a longtime parishioner of Holy Rosary Church in South Beach. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank Sorrentino, who passed away in 1972, and the late Robert Vreeland, who passed away in 2000. She was the loving mother of Joann, Eva, Madeline and Tara; cherished grandmother of Frankie, John, Annmarie, Thomas, Joann, Antoinette, Justine, Brian, Zia, Ronnie and Lorenzo, as well as, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was also the dear sister of the late Rosalie Canizzo and Joseph Ribertelli. A. Azzara Funeral Home, 183 Sand Lane, South Beach, has been entrusted with Mrs. Sorrentino-Vreeland's funeral arrangements, which include a visiting today, Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church.
