Ruth Jean Claggett
Claggett, Ruth Jean 9/28/1920 - 11/22/2019 Chelsea, Michigan Age 99, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 22, 2019, at Chelsea Retirement Community, surrounded by loved ones. Ruth was born September 28, 1920 in Richmond, MI, the daughter of William Lee and Helen VanInwagen. Ruth is most remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Ruth was an active member of the United Methodist Women, PEO, the Trillium Garden Club, Ikenobo Japanese Flower Arranging, and the Audubon Society. Some of the many activities she enjoyed were golf, playing Bridge, painting, and gardening. Ruth was preceded in death by her loving husband, Russell P. Claggett. She is survived by her devoted children, Kathleen Schlagel of Pinehurst, NC, David Claggett of Chocowinity, NC, and one sister Mary Bowles of Memphis, TN, as well as six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, a nephew, and cousins. She will be laid to rest with her husband at Richmond Cemetery in Richmond, MI. The family would like donations made to the United Methodist Retirement Community Foundation for the Flower Gardens.
